Clinical Attachment Loss Formula
$$\text{CAL} = \text{PD} - \text{GM}$$
Where:
- CAL is the Clinical Attachment Loss (mm)
- PD is the Probing Depth (mm)
- GM is the Gingival Margin Level (mm)
Example
If the probing depth is 7 mm and the gingival margin level is 1 mm:
$$\text{CAL} = 7 - 1 = 6$$
The clinical attachment loss is 6 mm.
