How to Calculate Ring Gap

  • Factor depends on the engine application:
    • Street: 0.004

Calculation Example

An engine has a bore size of 4.2 inches and is used for street driving.

The recommended ring gap is 0.0168 inches.

For the same bore in a forced induction application:

The forced induction ring gap is 0.0252 inches, which is 50% larger to accommodate the higher operating temperatures.
