What Is Cost Per HP?

Cost per horsepower tells you exactly how much money each unit of engine power costs you. Divide what a vehicle costs by how much power it makes, and you get one number that puts a $25,000 economy sedan and a $60,000 sports car on the same scale.

It is one of the simplest ways to judge bang for the buck: a low cost per HP means you are buying mostly muscle, while a high cost per HP usually means your money is going toward luxury, brand, or refinement instead of speed.
