What is Coefficient Of Permeability and Why Should You Care?

It's a measure of how easily water can flow through soil or rock layers.

Formula:

$$\text{Coefficient Of Permeability} = q \times d$$

Where:

  • q is the amount of water per unit area per unit time (m³/m²s)
  • d is the penetration distance (m)

Calculation Example:

  • Amount of Water per Unit Area per Unit Time: 50 m³/m²s
  • Penetration Distance: 8 m

$$\text{Coefficient Of Permeability} = 50 \times 8 = 400 \text{ m/s}$$
